Downtown St. Pete’s Dali Museum and spring training baseball in Clearwater made the must-see list in 2011′s 1000 Places to See Before You Die in the U.S and Canada by Patricia Schultz.
The popular book series picks out the top sites, attractions and natural wonders in North America and explains why everyone should visit them at least once in their lifetime.
The New York Times #1 bestseller likens downtown St. Petersburg to Salvador Dali’s native Cadaques, and briefly traces how the museum came to be there. It offers a glimpse into the museum’s substantial collection of the Spanish surrealist’s work and urges visitors to take a docent-led tour to get the most out of the Dali.
St. Petersburg is also referenced in the spring training description, identified as the first such training site in Florida, noting the St. Louis Browns arrival in 1914. Schultz calls Florida “the locus of the action” and notes that Clearwater’s Bright House Field, which hosts the Philadelphia Phillies, is at 8,500 seats “the most fan-friendly stadium in the area.”
