After growing the St. Pete/Clearwater brand in Canada through a variety of sales, marketing and public relations tactics, Visit St. Pete/Clearwater was a natural fit to partner with Visit Florida’s Canadian office on a group media FAM.
Set to take place February 19-21, the collaborative effort will be focused on the area’s abundant art and cultural offerings and will exclusively feature Canadian media. The tour will consist of three days in St. Pete/Clearwater, followed by an additional three in Sarasota.
The immersion tour is just the latest in a string of initiatives to penetrate the Canadian market, which ranks among the area’s top international visitor origins.
“We’re thrilled that they have chosen to invest in our area,” said Mary Haban, VSPC’s Senior PR Manager. “It’s a testament to how valuable our destination is to the state’s international marketing plan.”
Visit Florida will sponsor the cost of airfare and ground transportation for the participants, which will consist of hand-picked travel writers from Ontario and Quebec. The group’s itinerary will include stops at the world-class museums in downtown St. Pete and the Clearwater Marine Aquarium, along with excursions in Gulfport and Dunedin.
The exposure from resulting coverage is expected to be plentiful—and the timing perfect—with filed stories likely landing during Canada’s brutal winter season.
VSPC has been heavily active in Canada since combining its sales and public relations efforts. Some of the other notable Canadian activities include the Thomas Cook Trade Shows, a VIP reception at this year’s Florida Huddle, attendance at Visit Florida’s media breakfast and Discover America Day.
